CHAPTER 16 The Borders of the Sons of Joseph

1 And [⁵were ¹the ²borders ³of the sons ⁴of Joseph] from the Jordan by Jericho from the east wilderness; and it shall ascend from Jericho unto the mountainous area into Beth-el. 2 And it shall go forth from Beth-el to Luz, and it shall go by unto the borders of Archi Ataroth. 3 And it shall go to the west by the borders of Japhleti unto the borders of Beth-horon the part below, and unto Gezer; and [²shall be ¹their outer reaches] to the sea. 4 And [⁷inherited ¹the ²sons ³of Joseph -- ⁴Manasseh ⁵and ⁶Ephraim].

The Borders of Ephraim

5 And [⁴were ¹the borders ²of the sons ³of Ephraim] according to their peoples; and [⁵were ¹the ²borders ³of their inheritance] from the east -- Ataroth Addar unto Beth-horon the upper. 6 And [³shall go ¹the ²borders] to the sea unto Michmethah from the north, and [³shall go by ¹the ²border] unto eastwards into Taanath-shiloh, and it shall go towards the east to Janoah; 7 and it shall go down from Janoah to Ataroth, and their towns, and to Naarath, and it shall come to Jericho, and pass out at the Jordan. 8 And from Tappuah [³will go ¹the ²borders] west unto the rushing stream Kanah; and [²will be ¹its outer reaches] at the sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Ephraim according to their peoples. 9 And the [²cities ¹separated] to the sons of Ephraim were in the midst of the inheritance of the sons of Manasseh, all the cities, and their towns. 10 And [²did not ³destroy ¹Ephraim] the Canaanite dwelling in Gezer; but [³dwelt ¹the ²Canaanite] in Ephraim until this day, and they became [²subject to tribute ¹bondmen].
